November 2022 -- A fire occurred at the Resolute Forest Products’ recycled bleached kraft pulp mill in Michigan a few weeks ago.  This mill makes most of the pulp for the 3 largest manufacturers of recycled paper. The fire lasted nearly 2 weeks and decimated the building and all of the recycled fiber in it. The machinery had minimal damage but may not be up and running for a while. This is a North American issue that will impact the availability of 30% and 50% recycled papers nationwide until this mill is back up and running.  Shortages are expected beginning mid-November 2022, with recovery projected in the first quarter of 2023.  Please see https://www.recyclingtoday.com/article/officials-resolute-forest-products-menominee-paper-mill-fire-officially-out/ for information on the fire.
